| Project title | Randomised trial of radiotherapy v no further treatment after complete remission in nodular sclerosing Hodgkin's disease |
| Current status of trial | Ongoing |
| Main research question | To establish whether low dose radiotherapy improves remission duration in patients with nodular sclerosing histology in Hodgkin's disease and when the bulky disease at presentation represents most of the disease (stage 11 or 111), as found in sub-group analysis in American study (1994) |
| Design/methodology | Referral of patients by haematologists or oncologists who are treating patients with Hodgkin's disease with a standard chemo protocol who achieve a complete remission of the disease as judgd by both clinical and radiological criteria. Randomisation of patient between no further treatment at that time or radiotherapy to the sites of disease at presentation. Dose of radiotherapy 35 Gy in 20 fraction in four weeks encompassing the site(s) of initial bulk disease. |
| Sample group description | Patients with Hodgkin's disease who have completed complete remission with chemotherapy. male and female aged 16 years or over. |
| Multi-centre trial? | This is not a multi-centre trial. |
| Outcome measure | Endpoints are time to relapse at site(s) of original nodal disease, time to relapse at any site and overall survival. |
