Registration of randomised controlled trials
Current Controlled Trials is an online publisher dedicated to providing services in the area of randomised controlled trials. These include:
- Trial registration
- Trial hosting
- Trial information
Trial registration
Organisations can register their trials via the International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN) scheme:
- The ISRCTN scheme assigns a unique randomised 8 digit number to each trial against a one-off administrative charge.
- It ensures that the trial is tracked unambiguously throughout its life.
- The scheme is open to all randomised trials regardless of the country and health care area.
- The scheme has the support of several organisations, such as the Department of Health in England and the European Science Foundation.
- Organisations (and individuals) can apply online by supplying the minimum dataset required.
- Access to the ISRCTN Register is free online.
Trial hosting
In addition, organisations may wish to host their trial register on the metaRegister of Controlled Trials (metaRegister):
- The metaRegister is an international compilation of registers of completed and ongoing trials.
- By sharing trials registers, organisations are able to bring their trials to a wider audience, add to the body of knowledge available to funders, researchers and patients, and support the drive for greater openness.
- The metaRegister hosts all the randomised controlled trials sponsored by the UK Medical Research Council and the US Department of Veterans Affairs Co-operative Studies Program. For details of other registers, please visit the metaRegister.
- Access to the metaRegister is free to all users.
- We would be pleased to provide a customised quote in order to build, maintain and host registers of trials according to each organisation’s requirements.
Trial information
- Access is free for all site users.
- Users can browse either the ISRCTN or the metaRegister international database, providing access to over 15,000 trial records in all areas of health care.
