Current Controlled Trials’ policy for protecting your personal information

Current Controlled Trials (‘CCT’) is operated by Current Controlled Trials Limited.

Privacy is an important concern for Internet users, and is something that CCT takes very seriously. The following policy tells you how we collect information from you, what we use your information for, and your rights in relation to this.

What personal information is collected about me?

In order to make full use of the services provided by CCT, we may ask you to give us information such as your name, address, email address and information about your interests. We call this ‘personal information’.

We may also collect details you provide to us for the purposes of payment, for example credit card details. We call this ‘financial information’.

How do you use this personal information?

We will use the personal information you give us to identify you, contact you and communicate with you.

If you have given us your permission we may also share the information with third parties who may use it to contact you about products and or services offered by third parties other than us.

We will not use financial information for any purpose other than for the payment of amounts due to Current Controlled Trials Limited.

What further information does CCT track, and why?

In order to offer the best possible service to users, CCT tracks the patterns of usage of pages on the site. This enables us to identify the most popular areas. In time, where users have provided details of their research areas of interest, this information can be correlated, helping CCT to provide a useful service for scientists and others, offering them the most relevant information based on their areas of interest. Information collected online is stored indefinitely and may be used to assist in processing any transactions, customer service or to customize the site for the member.

Do you share my information with anyone else?

We will only share your personal information with someone else if you have given us your permission to do so or the law says that we have to do this or if we believe that we need to do this to protect and defend our or your rights, property or personal safety.

We will not share financial information with anybody else other than for the purposes of processing your payment to us.

What is CCT’s policy on sharing email addresses with third parties?

User information will only be shared with third parties with the explicit consent of the user. If the user has explicitly opted to receive special offer and product information emails from CCT’s partners, then CCT may from time to time email the user on behalf of these partner companies. However, these companies will not be given the user's details without that user's explicit consent.

What is CCT’s policy on emailing its registered members?

CCT may contact members from time to time to draw the member's attention to information that may be of interest. Members may opt out or in from receiving such emails when registering as a member, or at any time thereafter by responding to such an email or contacting customer services.

Where is the information stored?

We keep any personal information you send to us on a computer located in the United Kingdom.

Security

We place great importance on the security of your personal information, and we have taken security measures to try to prevent the loss, misuse and alteration of personal information that we collect and hold. While we cannot ensure or guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration of your personal information will not occur, we will do our best to try to make sure that this does not happen.

What is CCT’s policy on using demographic information about users for online advertising purposes?

Support from advertisers is important to CCT's model of free access. Statistical demographic information about the CCT membership may be supplied to advertisers. CCT may target online advertising to specific users on the basis of this demographic information, or on the basis of their past behaviour on the site, but information about an individual user will not be passed on to an advertiser without the users' express consent.

What are cookies and why does CCT use them?

A cookie is a small piece of data stored by a web browser on the user's hard drive. Cookies do not contain any personal information which you have not explicitly provided to a website, and they are available only to the website which created them. For auto login a cookie is sent from our server and is stored on your computer’s hard drive.

Session cookies are also sent from our server to your computer and used for session management. However these cookies do not remain on your hard drive on completion of your session.

Cookies are used by CCT to:

  • Enable us to identify you without having to ask you for username and password.
  • Measure usage.
  • Track movement within the CCT site.

Users are not obliged to accept cookies. If you do not wish to accept any of these cookies or wish to be notified when a cookie is sent you can modify your browser preferences. If you refuse to accept the permanent cookie that is saved on your computer’s hard drive then you will not be able to use the auto login facility. If you choose not to accept session cookies then you may not be able to use all of the facilities offered on CCT.

Your acceptance of these terms

If you use CCT we will assume that you have read through this policy carefully, and understand and accept it. If you do not agree to anything in this policy, then you should not use CCT. If we change our privacy policy we will post these changes on this page. If the change in our privacy policy affects the way in which we may use your personal information, then we will do our best to contact you to make sure you agree to this.

Your rights

You have a legal right to a copy of all the personal information that we hold about you. You also have a right to ask us to correct any mistakes in that information. You also have a right to ask us to stop using your personal information at any time. You may amend the information held about you and update your preferences by accessing and changing your profile in the CCT website.

Legal responsibilities

CCT reserves the right to disclose a member's personal information if required to do so by law, or in good faith and belief that such action is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, respond to claims, or to protect the rights, property or safety of CCT’s employees or members.

Changes to privacy policy

From time to time it may be appropriate for CCT to change the privacy policy. CCT reserves the right to change the terms of this privacy policy at any time, but will not do so without posting the revised policy on the CCT website and alerting the member's attention to the change either by email or on the website homepage.
